Carlow — where I am based
Handyman work in Carlow
The reason small jobs are hard to get done is not that they are difficult. It is that someone in the middle of a €6,000 bathroom cannot afford a morning hanging a door for €80, so the call goes unanswered and the door stays broken for a year.
I am in Carlow town, which makes the sums work here in a way they do not at eighty kilometres. Hourly work is €50 an hour with a two-hour minimum, labour only.
- General repairs, small jobs
- from €50/hour
- 2-hour minimum
- Plaster repairs and skimming
- from €150
- Flooring — laminate, LVT and wood
- from €25/m²
- labour only

The kind of thing this covers
- Doors that catch, will not close, or have dropped on their hinges
- Locks, handles, latches and door closers
- Shelves, mirrors, TV brackets and anything that has to go into the wall and stay there
- Flat-pack assembled properly, including the ones that arrived with a part missing
- Taps, shower heads, toilet seats and bathroom fittings swapped out
- Silicone stripped and redone where it has gone black in a kitchen or bathroom
- Skirting, architrave and trim repaired or replaced
- Curtain poles, blinds and light fittings
- Small plaster patches and paint touch-ups
- Gates, fences and shed repairs
- Snag lists before or after a sale
What the calls around Carlow actually are
Two patterns, and they come from different houses. In the older parts of the town and across the river in Graiguecullen, it is doors and windows in solid walls that have moved over decades — a door that has not closed properly since some previous owner carpeted over it, sash windows painted shut, skirting that was scribed to a floor that is no longer there.
In the estates it is fixings. Plasterboard will not hold a television, a heavy mirror or a full set of shelves on a plug and a wish, and the usual reason something has come off the wall is that it was never in anything solid to begin with. That is a twenty-minute fix done properly and a recurring annoyance done the other way.
The other steady one is the list before a sale. An auctioneer says the place shows badly, and what they mean is nine small things, none of which is worth its own call-out but all of which are visible in the first thirty seconds of a viewing.
Why you should save them up
Two hours is the minimum, so one small job and eight small jobs can cost the same to start. People who use this well keep a list on the fridge and message once, and the second hour is where the value is.
Write the list out when you message me. I will tell you honestly what fits in the time and what does not, before I arrive rather than after — and if something on it turns out to be a bigger job underneath, you hear that while there is still a choice to make.
What I will not pretend to do
Anything that needs a certified electrician or a registered gas installer is not mine, and I will say so rather than have a go. That is not caution for its own sake: in Ireland that work has to be signed off by someone on the register, and a certificate you cannot produce is a problem when you sell the house.
I can do everything around it — the chasing, the making good, the fitting — and work alongside whoever you bring in.

Not on the list? I work within 150 km of Carlow. Past about fifty, the drive only makes sense on the bigger jobs — message me and I will tell you straight whether yours is one of them.
